Have you experienced wakening to the nerve-jangling racket of an old wind-up alarm clock? If you had to be up early after a late night, that instrument of torture was painfully effective. The curtain dropped abruptly on any fun things in your dreams and you sprang from your bed in a frantic effort to shut the thing off.

Today an amazing variety of sounds on all our electronic devices are available to call us to action. Bird songs, waves on the shore, a dog barking, a sports cheer... when the interruption comes in a way that suits our temperament it is way less invasive.

A multitude of different alarm tones clamour for our attention in the world around us. When it's time to pay heed we can't hit the snooze button and pull the covers up over our heads. A report from media, a banker, a doctor or a lawyer may present a dark picture of all that might go wrong. God's report, His Word, shines light on the subject. If we choose to listen to this ring, the Holy Spirit can direct us to a verse that equips us to face the circumstance with positive faith.

In Philippians 4:6-7 we read, "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (NKJV)

We can shut off the alarm bells and select the peace of His promises for the best ringtone.
